Looking for a warm, personal experience? Stay in a homestay & connect with the local culture

Tell us about your homestay experience.

What I enjoyed the most was the warm and personal hospitality of the host. She went out of her way to make my stay comfortable, from picking me up late at night to providing complimentary breakfasts and helping with my laundry when it rained. Her thoughtful gestures made me feel like I was part of a family, which is something I deeply appreciated.

A homestay offers a unique sense of warmth and personal connection that you don’t usually find in hotels or other accommodations. It feels more like staying at a friend’s or relative’s home, with personal touches and a host who genuinely cares about your comfort. Unlike the often impersonal nature of hotels, a homestay provides a more authentic and welcoming experience, making it ideal for those seeking a deeper cultural connection and a “home away from home” feel.

What did you do in Osaka?

I visited Osaka for work and was pleasantly surprised by the area’s warmth and hospitality, especially my host’s kindness. During my stay, I explored Shinsaibashi’s vibrant shopping streets, Osaka Station’s bustling hub, and the serene Ougimachi Park. I also took a day trip to Nara to see the famous deer and temples, and visited Universal Studios Japan (USJ) for an exciting experience. The mix of work and sightseeing made my trip memorable.

Any tips or advice for other travellers?

My top advice is to stay at a homestay if you’re looking for a warm, personal experience. It’s a great way to connect with the local culture. Also, plan your travel routes ahead of time, as public transportation in Osaka and nearby areas is efficient but can be a bit overwhelming for first-time visitors.

What is your top tip, must-see place, or stand-out memory from the trip?

A must-see place is Nara, where you can interact with the friendly deer and visit historic temples—it’s a serene and unique experience. My stand-out memory, however, is the hospitality of my host. Her kindness, especially picking me up late at night and making sure I was comfortable every day, made my trip truly unforgettable.

Absolutely! My experience was much more personal and enriching than my usual routine. The cultural immersion, exploring iconic places like Nara and USJ, and the warmth of the host made this trip a unique and memorable departure from my everyday life.
